@all 2nd time the same thing happens but with another client this time - the server gets stuck on the boot screen asking to select the OS.

**Display:** Samsung monitor showing the **Windows Boot Manager** screen. **On-screen text:** "Choose an operating system to start, or press TAB to select a tool" — one OS entry listed: **"Windows Server"**. Tools section displays **"Windows Memory Diagnostic"**. Navigation prompt reads "To specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8." **Asset labels (monitor bezel):** **NPI 1427106848** and **TIN 133480153**. No error codes, indicator lights, or physical damage visible.

in both cases it was the sameWin 2019 OS as well as the same server model - t440

seems like it is happening after the Win updates

tested this? https://www.elevenforum.com/t/change-default-operating-system-to-run-at-startup-in-windows-11.5472/

no, why would I do that? Servers dont have multiple OS installed

Is it possible there’s key pressed on kb and takes them to menu on boot? I have come across servers where I had to lock local input in LogMeIn
Tech B 2024-03-25 13:20
@sergey i know, but i'm suggesting as a test, you only lose time checking it, and we all have seen weirded things

im not sure but in both cases they just pressed Enter to boot into Windows. In both cases they saw a message "Preparing update, please do not turn off the PC", so I assume its somehow related to the updates maybe? It happened for Levin Broadway last week twice. I am not sure about the 2nd time as I was not the one taking that call but fore the 1st time they also saw updating message. For Fidi today its the 1st time and they got the msg about the updates

not sure what you mean by testing it as servers only have one OS and one option

**Windows "Startup and Recovery" dialog box** is open on a Windows Server system. The default operating system is set to **"Windows Server"** with a dropdown active showing the same single entry. System failure settings show **"Automatically restart"** checked, write debugging information set to **"Automatic memory dump"**, dump file path set to **`%SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP`**, and **"Overwrite any existing file"** checked; **"Disable automatic deletion of memory dumps when disk space is low"** is unchecked. The "Time to display list of operating systems" checkbox is checked with a value of **30 seconds**; "Time to display recovery options when needed" is unchecked.

versions of BIOS are different. @Vladimir Sobko I think you were the one to pickup that 2nd call for Broadway last week. Did you do the BIOS update for the server?

Don't remember speaking with them regarding this - but looks like Brandon updated BIOS on the server on 3/14
