Hey Guys, I got a call from Kevin - Gitlin Bethpage They're installing a machine and they're asking me if we can disable the AV LMI AV is not installed, only win defender, if we try to disable the win defender from the settings, we're unable to, there's no option anywhere - The way we can disable it is by editing the policies, the thing is that if we enable the local policy, the group policies will take down this one - they only need to disable this on one computer which is LAB PC - The way I see that we can make it happen will be creating a group policy just for this computer - any ideas on how to proceed here?

**Group Policy Editor – "Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus" Policy Setting** The dialog displays the policy object "Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus" currently set to **Not Configured**. The **Supported on** field reads **"At least Windows Vista."** The Help pane describes behavior for Enabled, Disabled, and Not Configured states, and includes a note that enabling or disabling may cause unexpected or unsupported behavior, recommending the setting remain unconfigured.

you are overthinking this is how to disable it

The screenshot shows the **Windows Security** application on Windows 11 Pro, displaying the **Virus & threat protection settings** page. **Real-time protection** is toggled **On** (highlighted with a red rectangle border), and **Dev Drive protection**, **Cloud-delivered protection**, and **Automatic sample submission** are also toggled **On**. No error codes or warning messages are visible; all settings appear active and enabled.

I checked all the options under Privacy & Security - The only available options to check are this five Account protection APP & Browser Control Device Security Device Performance & health Family Options Inside none of them I have Virus & threat protection settings or the option to disable Real-Time protection

**Windows 11 Settings — Privacy & Security > Windows Security** The screen displays the Windows Security protection areas summary for user **Igor Litvak** (igor.litvak). Under **Protection areas**, the following statuses are visible: **Account protection** – *No actions needed*; **App & browser control** – **Actions recommended** (flagged); **Device security** – *No actions needed*; **Device performance & health** – *Reports on the health of your device*; **Family options** – *Manage how your family uses their devices.* A partially visible window tab labeled **"Exclusions"** is present at the top of the screen.

Tech B 2024-11-07 21:14
so, you are good
Tech A 2024-11-07 21:15
Oh okay okay, so with the service disable, that means that the real time protection is off, it shouldn't give them any issues, and if they have, then it's not because of the AV, right?
Tech B 2024-11-07 21:15
yes
Tech A 2024-11-07 21:15
Great, thank you so much, I'll let the office know then
Tech B 2024-11-07 21:15
if you want, you can re-enable the service and then disable the real time protection
Tech A 2024-11-07 21:17
Perfect, I'll let them know first that it's disabled already and if they insist on something else, I'll try that then - Thank you
